Mmmm…. last night was the first night of the season that we were able to sleep with the window open, which is one of my favorite things in the world. Our bedroom window faces on the creek, so we get all the creek noises: this time of year that's spring peepers and tree frogs, and last night there was also a gentle rain dripping and plashing and making everything smell fresh, and around 11:00 a long train went click-clacking by on the opposite shore. Later in the season there will be crickets, and later yet cicadas, but always the frogs whirring in the trees along the bank.
This all sounds so nice – idyllic really. If I leave my window open I hear buses grinding gears and fume smells waft in – and those are the good sounds! 🙂
I wish I had a creek nearby. Still I love window-opening time. I find that at those certain times of spring and fall when the windows are open, there's a certain sort of air–not really a smell, but something that begins in the olfactory senses–that almost makes me feel like I'm a kid again.
Sadly we made it into the 90's today. Open-window time is limited in my neck of the woods.
