Australia!

Alex called last night to tell us his application to spend next semester in Australia (Brisbane) was accepted! So exciting! (is it OK to be jealous of your kids?)  We have to find out more details now, but I think it's something like mid-July through mid-November. Read and post comments | Send to a friend

Act boldly.

We picked Alex up at 7:15 to head over to the National Cathedral for 8:00 Easter Sunday service. You want to see impressive and awe-inspiring! Flowers galore, banners, trumpets, choirs, you name it.   Here are some interesting facts about the cathedral… for example, that it was completed in 1990 after a construction period of…

Marrakesh Palace

Since this was to be Nikki's first time to come along with us to DC since Alex started school there, I'd told her a couple of weeks ago that she could choose the ethnicity of our Saturday night dinner [each trip we choose a different type of restaurant, since DC has them all – so…

Afternoon in DC

After we checked in at the hotel, the kids and I headed into the city to go to the International Spy Museum. We walked the couple blocks to the DuPont Circle Metro station, and while Alex easily added some money to his fare card that he uses all the time, I was having technical difficulties…

Hotel Madera

Casa Fiesta and some groceries

The three of us drove down to DC to spend Easter weekend with Alex, rather than try to figure out a way to get him home for only 2 days. We left around 7:00, after breakfast and coffees at home (for a change), and headed out in the mini-snowstorm (enough, already!). It was variously snowy,…

Dinner for one

It's been a while since I've been completely on my own for a couple days (if ever?) – no hubby, no kids, not even the dog any more to keep me company. Here's what I made for dinner, which was actually really good – and I have leftovers to take to the office for lunch…

I love a clean house

… now if only it would stay this way! We had friends over last night after going out to dinner (at, you guessed it, Cucina Pazzo), so I had cleaned and "redd up" (as we say in western PA!). I love how it feels just less… oppressive to not have piles of stuff all over…

Pumpernickel

It's really interesting to me that people all over the world are reading my posts about my endeavors to make a good loaf of pumpernickel (which I can see on my StatCounter). I would love to know if a link to my pumpernickel tags is posted on some baking site or something…? And I'd also…
